The UK Treasury Committee has formally requested that HMRC determine whether it has sought access to redacted documents from the independent commission’s report into Manchester City. This inquiry follows the commission's confirmation on October 1, 2026, that the club is guilty of 114 of 115 charges regarding breaches of Premier League financial regulations between the 2009-10 and 2017-18 seasons.
The commission concluded that Manchester City artificially inflated revenue through sponsorship agreements described as "sham" and utilized devices to disguise the true extent of club liabilities. Furthermore, the report stated that the club’s claim that sponsorship deals were funded by the Abu Dhabi government was "untrue" and "concocted well after the event."
In response to the findings, Etihad Airways has stated it categorically rejects any implication that the airline participated in improper commercial arrangements and is currently considering legal action against the Premier League.
Manchester City has announced its intention to lodge an appeal against the commission's findings by October 2, 2026.
