Manchester City secured a 1-0 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford in the latest Manchester derby. Following the match, Pro Ref issued a formal apology to Manchester United within three hours regarding a VAR error involving Enzo Fernandez.
Howard Webb, head of referees, stated that officials were too focused on Erling Haaland and failed to properly assess the position of Fernandez. Consequently, VAR Matt Donohue and assistant Blake Antrobus were not selected for matches this weekend.
Despite the error, Michael Carrick stated that he retains faith in the VAR system. The manager continues to oversee the development of defender Leny Yoro, who joined the club from Lille in July 2024 for a fee of £52.2 million.
Yoro has now made 55 Premier League appearances for Manchester United. Of those appearances, 25 have come as a substitute.
