Donyell Malen has recorded 20 goals since his Roma debut on 18 January 2026, the highest total of any player across Europe's top five leagues. Including assists, he has contributed to 22 goals during this period, leading all players in the same leagues.
This performance marks a significant statistical shift from his time at Aston Villa, where he scored 10 goals in 46 appearances. His scoring frequency has improved from one goal every 149.8 minutes at Aston Villa to one every 96.7 minutes under his current club.
The change in output coincides with a shift in his primary position. Under manager Gian Piero Gasperini at Roma, 99% of Malen’s Serie A minutes have been played as a central striker, compared to 52% during his tenure at Aston Villa.
French football journalist Julien Laurens noted that Malen has been efficient and clinical since January, becoming central to Roma's attacking play.
