Baresi spent his entire 20-year professional playing career at AC Milan. During his time with the club, he established himself as a central figure in their defensive line.
On the international stage, Baresi earned 81 caps for the Italian national team. He was a member of the squad that secured the 1982 FIFA World Cup title.
In recognition of his contributions to the club, AC Milan retired the number 6 jersey previously worn by Baresi.
