Carolina Hurricanes vs Washington Capitals preview
The Carolina Hurricanes host the Washington Capitals on October 2, 2026, in a USA NHL regular-season matchup scheduled for 23:00 UTC. This game marks the home opener for the Hurricanes, who enter the contest with a 0-0-1 record, while the Capitals begin their 2026-27 campaign following an offseason that saw the franchise add several new pieces to their roster.
The matchup features a projected goaltending duel between Washington’s Logan Thompson and Carolina’s Pyotr Kochetkov. While the Capitals missed the playoffs last season and are looking to return to contention with a retooled lineup, the Hurricanes are continuing their pursuit of the Stanley Cup. Alex Ovechkin remains the face of the Washington franchise as they open their year on the road against a Carolina team that recently faced the Florida Panthers at the Lenovo Center in Raleigh. Oddsmakers have set the total for the game at 6.5 goals, reflecting expectations for a balanced contest between these two Eastern Conference opponents.
